BROCKTON, Mass. – The New England PGA kicked off the 2023 season at Thorny Lea Golf Club on a sunny, brisk spring day in Brockton, Mass. 32 teams traveled to compete in the first Section Pro-Am of the season.

Liam Friedman, PGA of Wollaston Golf Club took home first place in the Professional Division, shooting 70 (E) on the day. Brendon Ray, PGA of Point Judith Country Club and Steven Daly, PGA of Dedham Country & Polo Club claimed a share of second place overall, shooting 71s (+1). Scott Hickey, PGA of Cyprian Keyes Golf Club shot a 72 (+2) over 18 for fourth place overall. Matt Bara, PGA of The Ridge Club took home fifth 73 (+3). He was followed by Frank Dully, PGA of Kernwood Country Club who claimed solo sixth place, shooting 74 (+4).

In team play, PJ Breton, PGA of Tatnuck Country Club and Friedman led their teams to a share of a first-place finish in the 2 best ball of 4, 1 Gross + 1 Net score, with total scores of 127 (-13). Breton’s team consisted of Mike Marshall, Ara Derderian, and Pete Rano. Friedman’s team included Neal Piliavin, Tyler Ferrari, and Mike Poitta. Finishing behind them, tied for third place and shooting 10-under (130) were teams from Presidents Golf Course, Cohasset Golf Club, and Dedham Country & Polo Club. Dana Smith, PGA led his team from Presidents Golf Course which consisted of Matt Adams, Michael Ryan, and James Fitzroy. Bryan Kienke, PGA led the Cohasset group of Chris Bohane, Pat McGinn, and Tony Messina. Daly led the group from Dedham Country & Polo Club of Matt Parziale, Joe Izzo, and Jay Mann.

The Section hosts the first Stroke Play Series event of 2023 on April 18th at Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, R.I.
