SCARBOROUGH, ME- The Maine Chapter was back in action on Monday at they held their first of two Scholarship Pro-Ams at Prouts Neck Country Club. 31 teams of Maine Chapter Professionals teed it up and combined to raise over $1200 for the Chapter’s Scholarship fund!
Cameron Taylor (Portland Country Club) had quite the day on the golf course as he won both the Team and Individual competitions. Taylor was joined by his amateur teammates Dave Bucci, Guy Vigue, and Bruce Kay who combined to post a score of 10-under 130. The key to victory for Portland Country Club was limiting mistakes as they made only a single bogey to go along with nine birdies and an eagle.
Brett Smestad and Rochester Country Club finished the day in solo second with a score of 7-under par and were followed in third place by Northport Golf Course and Tee N’ Tee Golfland led by Maine Chapter Professionals John Hickson and David Grygiel.
Cameron Taylor’s round of 4-under 66 gave him a seven-shot cushion over the rest of the field. Taylor wasted no time getting into red figures making three consecutive birdies on holes 2 through 4. A pair of bogeys on holes 6 and 8 left him at 1-under 34 at the turn. He then turned in a clean card on the back, recording birdies on 10, 16, and 18 to finish the day at 4-under 66. John Hickson finished in third place at 3-over 73. Four professionals finished in a tie for 4th place at 6-over 76.
The highlight of the day came from amateur John Goodrich of the Woodland Club (pictured below) who made an ace on the 144-yard par-3 13th hole. Congratulations John!
