BOYLSTON, Mass. – The New England PGA Section hosted the Parent-Child Scramble event on Thursday, August 7th at Cyprian Keyes GC in Boylston, Mass. The Parent-Child event allowed PGA Professionals to invite one of their children, or one of their parents, to compete in a two-player scramble. For those competing with a child, there were three age divisions: ages 18+ (grouped with Pro + Parent teams), ages 13-17, and ages 12 and under. The event was a great opportunity for NEPGA Professionals to spend the day with family!
The team of Chip Johnson, PGA and Jillian Johnson took home the victory, shooting 10-under overall. They started the shotgun round on the 13th hole and made 7 birdies through the opening nine holes of the day. They finished the round with 11 total birdies including all three of their final holes and an impressive stretch of five straight on holes 10 through 14.
Two teams tied for second place overall, shooting 8-under, 64s. The team of Michael Zaranek, PGA and Benjamin Zaranek started the shotgun on the 14th hole and put up 5 birdies through the first nine holes, making the turn at 5-under. Birdies on the par-4 7th and 8th holes as well as the par-5 10th hole put finished them as 8-under in the tie for second place. The duo of Kevin Murphy, PGA and Matthew Murphy started the day on the first hole and put up 6 birdies through the front nine. Birdies on the paqr-4 12th and 14th holes gave them the final 8-under finish in the share of second place overall.
