BROCKTON, Mass. – The NEPGA Thorny Lea Pro-Am, held today at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton, Massachusetts, featured a strong field of New England PGA Golf Professionals and amateurs, with Thomas Rooney, PGA (LeBaron Hills CC) leading his team to a dominant 4-stroke victory. Rooney, alongside amateurs Tom Coucci, Mike Renzi, and Chris Koczela, carded an impressive 11-under-par team total of 129 to take home the title.
The cooler and wet conditions presented challenges for the players, but they adapted well, delivering impressive performances throughout the day.
Two teams tied for second at 7-under 133. Dave Einstein, PGA (Hyannisport Club) and Peter Ruymann, PGA (Marshfield Country Club) both guided their teams to strong finishes with steady rounds. Einstein’s group included Brendan Mahoney, Glenn Tobin, and Jack Riley, while Ruymann was supported by Glenn Harnish, Liam Scully, and Jay Rabeni.
Ruymann claimed the Individual Professional Division honors with the low round of the day — a sharp 1-under-par 69. Ruymann’s scorecard was highlighted by a spectacular eagle on the par-4 16th hole, along with three birdies spread across the round, showcasing his aggressive and precise play on a day that brought difficult conditions.
Close behind was Liam Friedman of Wollaston Golf Club, who finished solo second with a 1-over 71. Rounding out the top three was Dave Einstein (Hyannisport Club), carding a 2-over 72 to continue his solid form.
The tournament featured 27 teams, competing in a 2BB of 4, 1 Gross +1 Net format. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the event was a success, showcasing the talent and camaraderie of the NEPGA community.
