BOYLSTON, Mass./SUNRISE, Fla.Thor Guard – the world’s only lightning prediction system – continues to solidify its position as the leader in severe weather prediction in the golf industry, partnering with the New England Professional Golfers’ Association (NEPGA) Foundation.

The partnership will extend across Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont, with more than 60 facilities adopting Thor Guard systems. The technology will protect golfers from the dangerous impacts of severe weather by predicting lightning strikes up to 20 minutes prior to occurrence. Notable clubs to adopt Thor Guard systems include TPC Boston, Newport Country Club and Worcester Country Club, among others.

“I grew up in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and learned to play golf at Country Club of Pittsfield – later playing on the College of the Holy Cross golf team for four years,” says Bob Dugan, President of Thor Guard. “As the President of Thor Guard, I can only express the company’s excitement to be working with the NEPGA, and my satisfaction knowing that I have re-connected with a part of the country I love.”

Launched in 2016, the NEPGA Foundation was built to inspire fellowship, good sportsmanship, skill development, honesty, integrity and etiquette. Initiatives of the Foundation include NEPGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere), scholarships, diversity and inclusion, youth programs and a grants.

“Our Foundation has always worked to promote the game and improve the lives of thousands of children, military veterans and their families,” said Mike Higgins, Executive Director of the New England PGA. “Knowing Thor Guard’s reliability and accuracy, we feel confident that it will follow our mission and keep our members and visitors safe in the event of inclement weather.”

Climate trends support the need for Thor Guard. Meteorological experts project a 5-percent annual rise in weather, climate and geological disasters through 2020. The United States alone recently experienced 14 weather and climate disasters, totaling in around $91 billion in damages.

As the longest-tenured company in the category globally, Thor Guard continues to add to its decades-long leadership predicting (versus detection) lightning and other threatening weather scenarios at professional golf events.
