MILTON, Mass. – The New England PGA hosted the 2023 NEPGA Senior/Junior Championship on Monday, September 11th at Wollaston Golf Club. Despite a forecast that called for rain and thunderstorms, the field of 42 Professionals were able to squeeze in all 18 holes of 4-ball stroke play competition.

The duo of Dan Gillis, PGA (Nabnasset Lake CC) and Gregg Richbourg, PGA (Cape Cod National GC) along with the team of Jeff Martin, PGA (Wollaston GC) and James Burke, PGA (Ponkapoag GC) combined to card 8-under, 64s, to share the 2023 NEPGA Senior/Junior Championship title by a 1-stroke margin.

Gillis and Richbourg started the round on the 13th hole. The duo carded a bogey on 10 and birdies on holes 1 and 3 to head into the final nine at 1-under. They lit up the final nine holes of the day, carding another 4 birdies and an eagle on the par-5 5th hole. The impressive run put them at a final 8-under for the victory.

Martin and Burke teed off from the 1st hole, carding four birdies on the front nine and made the turn at 4-under. Four more birdies in a row on, 11, 12, 13, and 14 gave them the final 8-under, 64, for a share of first place.

Two teams shot 7-under, 65s to share third place overall: Chip Johnson, PGA (Hatherly GC) teamed up with Liam Friedman, PGA (Wollaston GC) and Rick Karbowski, PGA (Auburn Driving Range) played with Bob Bruso, PGA (Blackston National GC).

Johnson and Friedman started the round on the par-4 1st hole, making par. They carded 4 birdies on the front nine and made the turn at 3-under, 33. Four more birdies on the back nine, including the par-5 14th and 16th holes finished them at 7-under for second place overall.

Karbowski and Bruso kicked off the round on the 12th hole. They started strong with a birdie on the par-4 13th hole and went on to card 2 more birdies through their opening nine holes, sitting at 3-under early on. Back-to-back birdies on the par-4 4th hole and par-5 5th hole gave them the final 7-under 65 for a share of second place.
