Manchester, VT – The Pro – Junior at Manchester Country Club, kicked off with one of the biggest participations known to date. A perfect day helped make this day very special as everyone kept in their thoughts, Sarah Hunter, a former club Professional at Manchester Country Club whose passion helped grow the game through junior golf. Going forward, the Vermont Chapter and its club professionals would like to make this an annual event at Manchester Country Club in memory of Sarah Hunter and grow the event into one of most participated events of the season.
In regards to golf, there was a very good field of young junior golfers from all over the state ranging from as young as 6, all the way to 18 years old. The top 6 juniors won a special embroidered bag with Vermont Pro – Junior from one of our sponsors PING. A big congratulations to David Bennett (Country Club of Vermont) – Garret Cameron 9-under 63, Curt Goldsberry (The Quechee Club) – Evan Stratemeyer 9-under 63, Pete Weatherby (Manchester Country Club) – Noah Rourke 8-under 64, Kevin Bennison (Burlington Country Club) – Jack Henry 8-under 63, David Jankowski (Golf Garage VT) – Teddy Maynard 7-under 65, and David Bennett (Country Club of Vermont) – Derin Suren 7-under 65.
On the professional side of things, Pete Weatherby (Manchester Country Club) had a fantastic round of 5-under Par 67. Weatherby, the host professional, had 6 birdies on holes 3, 5, 6, 8, 13, and 17 and won by two shots over Curt Goldsberry (The Quechee Club) who shot 3-under 69. Rounding out the top 10, David Bennett (CC of Vermont) 1-under 71, Kevin Bennison (Burlington Country Club) as well as David Jankowski (Golf Garage) even par 72, Susan Fasoldt (Dorset Field Club) and Tom Mackey (Ekwanok Country Club) 2-over 74, Michael Zaranek (Brattleboro Country Club) and Roger King (Sugarbush Golf Club) 4-over 76, and Jason Sherman (CC of Vermont) 5-over 77.
