AUSTIN, TEXAS – They often say “better late than never” and that could not have been more true for Falmouth Country Club’s Shawn Warren, PGA. Warren’s final round barrage was highlighted by a stellar shot into the par-5 5th, leading to an eagle that would quickly ascend him to the top of the leaderboard. Warren started the final round with a bogey on his first hole (#10), but it would be his only mistake all day before beginning his charge. Hovering around the PGA Championship cut line throughout the afternoon, Warren followed up his aforementioned eagle with a birdie on the following hole to move to -2 overall and never looked back. Three pars to close out his magnificent round of 66 (-5) secured his spot in the 2022 PGA Championship. Warren’s final round 66 was the low round of the day and certainly the highlight of the PGA Professional Championship. In his interview with Golf Channel following his round, Warren noted that with the challenging conditions in place that day, a low round would likely get him back in the hunt. He was right and then some, as his clutch play vaulted him to T6th overall and well within the cut line to qualify for the PGA Championship at Southern Hills this May.

Warren was not the only NEPGA Professional who had a stellar week at the PGA Professional Championship, as four others also made the 36 & 54-hole cuts. David Bennett (CC of Vermont) – (+4), Bob Bruso (Blackstone National) – (+5), Jeff Martin (Wollaston) – (+7), & Eric Barlow (Winchester) – (+14) all battled throughout the entire week at OMNI Barton Creek in hopes of making the PGA Championship. Both Bennett & Bruso made strong pushes throughout the final round and were within striking distance of qualifying for Southern Hills. Unfortunately, each had a double-bogey blemish on their scorecard resulting in a missed PGA Championship cut by a narrow margin. Nevertheless, their inspiring play throughout the week was highly followed throughout the Northeast. Congratulations to all our NEPGA Professionals who competed this week in the PGA Professional Championship!

The 2022 PGA Championship will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma at Southern Hills Country Club & kicks off May 19th. The New England PGA is extremely excited to follow along with Shawn Warren’s week and will be providing updates throughout his rounds!
