MATTAPOISETT, Mass. – Two champions were crowned on Tuesday after the final round of the New England PGA Avidia Junior Cup at The Bay Club of Mattapoisett. Conner Willett finished +4 for the 36 hole tournament to win the boys championship and Emily Nash was -1 overall to take home the girls championship.
Willett entered Tuesday trailing William Huang by three shots after Monday’s first round at Country Club of New Bedford, but he shot 71 with five birdies on the card on Tuesday to force a playoff with Huang. Willett and Huang each split the fairway and hit the green on the first playoff hole. Huang was first to putt, and his 25-footer narrowly missed on the high side. Willett then stepped up and buried his 15-foot birdie putt to clinch the title.
With the win Willett picked up exemptions into the 2020 Hornblower Memorial and the 2019 Denny McCarthy Invitational. Huang also earned a spot in the 2019 Denny McCarthy Invitational with his second-place finish.
Nash built an eight-stroke lead over Tate Hadges after the opening 18 holes at CC of New Bedford, where she shot 72. She kept her foot on the gas on Tuesday, carding five birdies en route to a 16-stroke victory over Hadges. Nash and Hadges each earned spots in the 2019 Denny McCarthy Invitational.
The New England PGA Junior Tour thanks the Bay Club at Mattapoisett and Country Club of New Bedford for hosting the 36-hole championship, along with partner Avidia Bank.
