OSTERVILLE, Mass. — The 2020 New England PGA Cape Cod Fall Festival wrapped up on Friday at the Wianno Club where Wollaston GC won the team competition and James Antonelli, PGA (Marshfield CC) and Eric Steindel, PGA (Wianno) sharing low individual professional honors.
The Wollaston GC team of Jeff Martin, PGA, Mike Wiseman, Chad Rowley and Emmett Maguire caught fire at the end of their round, playing the last four holes 8-under par in the two-best ball-of-four (one gross, one net) format. The squad was 3-under on the 15th hole alone, with scores of 3 and 2 on the par-4.
Coming off a sweep of the individual and team titles at Thursday’s event at Cape Cod National, Brett Smestad, PGA, and his Rochester CC team posted a 12-under par team score to finish two strokes behind Wollaston GC in second place. Smestad’s 2-over par round of 72 earned him a fourth-place finish.
Antonelli was 2-over par through 10 holes before carding three birdies over his final eight holes to finish 1-under with a back-9 33. Steindel, meanwhile, got hot in the middle of his round with birdies on the 8th, 10th and 12th holes to get to 3-under, but bogeys on two of his final four dropped him into a tie with Antonelli for the top spot.
Rick Karbowski, PGA (Auburn Driving Range) had an adventurous even-par round that included just eight pars. He was 3-under through four holes but gave it all back with bogeys on the fifth, eighth and 10th holes. After a par at the 11th, he made two birdies, two bogeys and three pars over his last seven holes to post 70, helping his team to a fourth-place finish. Rob Bradley, PGA (Brockton CC) shot 1-over par 71 to finish third.
